Wholesale drug distributors operating in or shipping into Louisiana must hold a license from the Louisiana Board of Drug and Device Distributors (LBDDD). Both resident (in-state) and non-resident (out-of-state) distributors are subject to the same licensing requirements under Louisiana Revised Statutes Title 37, Chapter 29 (R.S. 37:3461-3482). Each physical facility requires a separate license.

The Louisiana Board of Drug and Device Distributors (LBDDD) regulates wholesale distribution of legend drugs and devices in the state. The Board operates under statutory authority granted by Louisiana Revised Statutes Title 37, Chapter 29 (R.S. 37:3461-3482), known as the Louisiana Licensing Law for Wholesale Drug Distributors. Implementing regulations are codified in Louisiana Administrative Code Title 46, Part XLI.

Under R.S. 37:3467, the Board has authority to approve, deny, revoke, or suspend licenses; regulate distribution; monitor compliance; conduct inspections; and hold hearings.

Any person engaged in wholesale distribution or sale of legend drugs or legend devices in or into Louisiana must hold a license from the LBDDD. This includes:
